I am currently a student at St Hugh’s college, Oxford. This year I will be working with the Senn group on my Part II research project, the final part of my undergraduate masters. I am looking at understanding the fundamental mechanisms that underlie the negative thermal expansion in A-site deficient perovskites. My research focuses on MZrF6 compounds, modelling the lattice dynamics that drive isotropic NTE over a large temperature range. Mainly looking at PDFs to identify variation in structural parameters, we are seeking to identify specific phonon modes that contribute to the thermal expansion of these materials. Outside of chemistry, I volunteer with the charity Branch Up, which runs activity days for children from disadvantaged backgrounds, and enjoy swimming and painting.
